Hello!I'm a new member.
I'm Christian. I'd like to ask about the ff:
1. what is the essence of being a jew?
2. are you proud of being a jew?

Thanks!

There used to be this series called Shalom Sesame, that was basically a Jewish sesame street. It was really neat, and there was this one show of it where a man (maybe a teenager) walked around and sang about meeting his neighbors. If any of you have lyrics to it, or know which tape it was, please let me know!

This was kind of a hidden post, so I wanted to re-post this for everyone. I am looking forward to meeting you:

Hillel at the University of Florida has a lot of new, young, talented, energetic and hip staff and a new campus rabbi-me. I am aware of the reputation Hillel has for being somewhat clique-y and will be working very hard to help make a change here. We are about to move into a new, insanely great facility that will be offering among other things a top-quality, glatt kosher dining plan. If that doesn't excite you, a 61 inch plasma TV with NFL Sunday Ticket might. In other words, we are trying to have something for everyone. For my part, I will be offering a wide variety of classes and programs that will, I hope, interest Jews from all denominations and backgrounds. These will include not only bible study, but meditation, kabbalah and even some practical knowledge! Please check us out at www.ufhillel.org or drop me a note at rabbi@ufhillel.org if you want more information.

It's finally happened, Gal Freidman won the gold medal in men's mistral windsurfing! I've been following all the Israeli's in the olympics, the world class athletes who were supposed to have a legit shot at medaling, but didn't come close, except for Freidman, who I've been following for a week and a half. Although i couldn't watch the race on tv, i have stayed up many times to get the 15 minute delayed results on the olympic website, but i fell asleep just after in started. I first woke up to realize i missed my hebrew class, but o well, cuz the first thing i did was check the results, saw he finished 2nd, knew the brazilian had to finish 5th or worst, and i didn't see him or the greek, they were way back, and the rushing sense of joy filled my body. I am SO happy that Israel has gotten its first gold!
